Creating the Perfect Christmas Table
By Roy Thomsitt
The menu has been planned, the food is bought and ready to be prepared, the invitations are sent, and the house looks beautiful. There's just one thing left to do, create the perfect Christmas table for your holiday meal. Candles help set the mood, so turn out the lights and dine by candlelight when your guests arrive and the light will shine and dance off of the glasses and silverware adding to the festiveness. Steer clear of tea lights as they only stay lit for about an hour or so and you won't want to be relighting all of the candles half way through the meal. Tapers or pillars work well as they are tall and cast a glow down onto the table and will last the longest. Make sure you have something to catch the wax and keep the flame far from any of the decorations. Unless you want your table to be distinctly different than the rest of the decorations in the house, add the same colors in the form of candles and candle holders, ornaments, bows, and ribbon to your Christmas table. Browse through a few home and decorating magazines for some ideas that you can use for your own table. Sparkling Place Settings Here are a few ideas to make your table a special part of the entire Christmas celebration: A Snowy Scene: Find place settings that have either snowmen or snowflakes on them, or simply use plain blue and white plates on the table. Cut snowflakes out of white paper, use a dark blue tablecloth and sprinkle white glitter on top. Country Christmas: Set a country Christmas table with fabrics like red or green gingham, use napkin holders made from wood, and finally, use real boughs from the Christmas tree to arrange around the plates or candle holders. The Midas Touch: Decorate your entire Christmas table in shades of gold, including everything from the silverware to the candle holders to the tablecloth. The Star Treatment: Sprinkle star shaped glitter on your holiday plates and then place a clear plate or soup bowl atop of that so the glitter is visible but won't interfere with the meal. Christmas Table Centerpiece If you want to do something special for a table centerpiece, then a wonderful idea is a table top Christmas trees. These come in all sorts of designs and price ranges, but be warned, some of the animated collectible table top trees can be a bit of a distraction from the food. But they are collectors items, and will spark many a conversation. How ever you ultimately decide to decorate your table this Christmas season the most important thing is that you'll be enjoying good times and delicious holiday foods with family and friends.
