Kids Christmas Party Tips
By Roy Thomsitt
Here are some simple kids Christmas party ideas to keep them occupied: Making Pretty Paper Plate Wreaths For this simple craft you will need: - Large, white paper plates with a hole cut in the middle - Leaves cut out of green construction paper - Berries cut out of red construction paper - Candles cut out of yellow construction paper - Flames cut out of orange, yellow, and red construction paper - Green washable paint in various shades - Paintbrushes - Disposable cups for water - Glue sticks - Plenty of newspaper for covering tables If you have older kids attending, you may want to have them cut out and assemble all of the pieces to be distributed to each child during the party while the rest are busy with some other activity geared toward the younger set. To make the pretty paper plate wreaths, have each child paint their plates in whatever shade or shades of green they like and allow to dry while listening to Christmas carols and having sing-a-longs as they wait. Next, using the glue sticks, everyone can add the berries and leaves to their wreath, and then the candle to the bottom so it's sticking up into the center, and finally the flames. Some other crafts to do at Christmas parties for kids include: - Fragrant balls (cloves, oranges, ribbon) - Glittery pinecones (paint, pinecones, glitter) - Paper chains (paper, glue or stapler, scissors) - Paper ornaments (paper, old Christmas cards, glue, ribbon) - Paper snowflakes (paper, scissors) - Luminaries (paper bags, scissors, candles) Playing Games The possibilities are nearly endless when it comes to playing games associated with the Christmas season. Whether it's board games, musical chairs, pin-the-tail on the Santa Claus, trivia games, or the always fun scavenger hunt, the kids will be sure to have a wonderful time interacting with each other. And, if you're planning on having story time at the party, ask if anyone would like to help put on an impromptu Christmas play to act out some classic holiday tales. Showing Movies For this Christmas party activity, don't expect the kids to settle in and be content to watch a movie just after they arrive for the festivities. Showing Christmas themed movies should be the very last part of your party as it will help the kids to wind down while waiting for their parents to pick them up. Also, the clean-up portion of the day can begin early if everyone is sitting quietly in one room watching the movie. Have a few movie rentals on hand and take a vote to see what is the most popular and start with that one while serving popcorn, cookies, and hot chocolate. Have all of the guests sit on the floor which can be covered first by a large, comfy blanket that can easily be washed to make clean-up quick and simple.
